I'm using a cheapo 2x teleconverter on my FZ1 that's nowhere near the quality of the TCON line. I got it used for $14 on eBay, but it typically goes for $49 new on eBay. It's actually a 52mm thread, but I use a step ring to attach it to the 55mm barrel adapter.

You don't get much extra zoom...a little, but not much. It's not like you'll be getting a total of 24x zoom -- you're just getting 14x total. I know that may be obvious to some, but not to others.

I get a lot of vignetting, but that's because of the lens design -- they expect you to be full zoomed on your camera when using this teleconverter, and then you won't get any vignetting. However, if you want to go back and take a wideangle shot, you'd have to remove the teleconverter to avoid significant vignetting. I'm sure there are teleconverters out there that are not designed this way (bigger glass=bigger $).

Image quality is not noticeably affected, but I wouldn't try to take an indoor shot with it. Also, keep in mind that the image stabilization is not taking the extra 2x into account so you'll want to use a tripod/monopod. I'll post some pics in this thread later this afternoon to show the difference.

The tcon17 works great on the fz1. I get no vignetting in the top 25% of zoom. Here is a shot taken with the fz1 and tcon17 at full zoom. (Is it possible to embed a photo into the message on this forum?)

Fantastic shot! Where I live in Florida, we have bigger squirrels and we call them raccoons. Haha.

Seriously, I haven't been able to take a picture of a squirrel in years being so close to the coast!
