Default Replacement Canon S2 IS

Hello everybody,

After making 7800 shots with my Canon S2, the zoom-motor is starting to fail. Everytime the lens extends/retracts it makes a strange noise and a
little shake is noticed.

Therefore I'm looking for new camera. One important feature it must have
is the abillity to record decent movies with stereo sound (I don't want to carry a camcorder around). Also I need 27/28mm.

I narrowed my search to :

1 - Canon SX1 Tiltdisplay, Full HD recording.
2 - Panasonic FZ38 HD Recording AClite

According to several tests the Panasonic has better picture quality, the Canon has Full HD Moviemodus. The Canon is more expensive (100Euro more).

1) If you had to choose, which one should you take? And why?

Grtz,

Maurice

Ha-ha!

To ask this question, you must allow for some biased opinions - after all - you are in the Panasonic / Leica-Forum....

Hm... You're right. Let me rephrase:

Is the moviemodus of the Panasonic a good replacement for a camcorder?
My S2 recorded very nice movies (640x480) in stereo.

I need a camera with good movie capabillities.

Regards,

Maurice

I just ordered the Panasonic FZ35. Will have it in about a week.

I also have a Canon S3 1S which has served me well.

The only thing I wish the 35 had is the swing-out/tilt view, otherwise, from what I've read in reviews between the Panasonic and its competitors, such as Canon, the Z35 aka 38 is one fine camera for photos and HD video.

I plan on using the Panasonic for mainly movies, and for vacation instead of lugging my Nikon D90 around and a video camera.
