Default FZ35/38 IQ & settings.

Hi-firstly thanks to all the posters-have learned alot!!
Am confused by all the talk about noise & quality.
Do the saturation/noise/WB etc settings just apply to the jpeg images?
i.e. if I shoot in RAW can I ignore them? I have experience using film/SLR & so am used to using manual settings to get optimal shots (well I tried :-)).
I've read about RAW v Jpeg but would like to hear what you people have to say!!

andt1-

The Panasonic FZ-35/38 has a very good JPEG engine. I generally use JPEG as my default setting. Therefore, yes, your setting for White Balance, ISO, saturation, contrast, sharpness and noise reduction will be applicable.

I generally shoot as follows:

WB=Auto
ISO=Auto
Saturation +1
Contrast +1
Noise Reduction -1

The settings for saturation, contrast, and noise are a matter of personal choice and what appearance you prefer in your photos. For improved photo quality, it is best tto avoid using the "IA" mode on the FZ-35/38.

Have a great weekend.

Sarah,

Do you leave Sharpness set at 0 ? Also, where do I set the default to JPEG?
As always, thanks for your help !

Hello there, Stan-

I prefer to keep sharpness at +1, as I like very sharp edges in my photos.

The built-in or automatic default setting for the Fz-35 is to use JPEG. You have to actually select RAW if that is what you desire to use.

Have a great weekend.

Default thx

Sarah
Thanks for that. Thought it'd be best to capture quality images on the camera itself but realise that it's a complex and very versatile machine; quite a learning curve!!
If you have time- why do you use these settings?
Am trying them anyway since it's the first sunny day of the year here!
Enjoy your weekend.
Andrew.

Andrew-

The reason for the wide selection of custom features is to allow the user to "tailor" the images to their preferences. So it is indeed rather subjective. You may find that you make small alterations as well to bring the settings in line with your own personal preferences.

Have a great day.

Andrew-

Those two samples both look quite good colour-wise. I especially like the fishing trawler.

Have a great day.
