Default Temple photos

Had been to a remote village near Kanchipuram, and had the time to visit an ancient Shiva temple (they say it is over 1,500 years old). Some sculptures on the pillars in the temple were fantastic. Fortunately, the priest gave me permission to shoot. Happy to share these and other views I got around the place.

The beautiful Ganesh, in standing posture:

Shiva:

Another carving of Shiva:

A new face - I couldn't get to know who this depcts:

A goddess this time:

A cow offering milk to Shivalingam and affectionately licking it too:

The temple priest chanting prayers:

The lion, a vehicle on which the deity is taken around during festivals, getting ready:

The chariot just after a festival was over yesterday:

Exquisite carving and wood work on the chariot:

Hope you like these. I usually submit the photos in a larger size. Just want to test if you are comfortable with this medium size too. C&C most welcome.

Raghu-

It is always a treat to view your wonderful photos. Once again, I feel as if I have treated a new and very interesting view of an ancient culture. Many thanks!

Very nicely done,as usual, Raghu. I have always loved your photo shoots of the temples you have treated us to over the past few years. Sometimes, I think you should repost some of them for the new people on the forum. They were all so beautiful and well done.

Thank you Sarah, Hards, Mike and Jerry. I am glad you liked seeing these photos as much as I did shooting them. Jerry - for quite some time now, I have now been uploading most of my photos in Flickr, and the address is: www.flick.com/photos/raghu_ambattur/sets. All the old temple photos can be found there. You and other friends here are most welcome to view them.
