One common solution to make better use of a laptop is to get an LCD monitor, plus USB keyboard and mouse, very cheap these days/ I just got a 24" Benq Full HD monitor for $228 aussie dollars...

The desktop might handle it, but XP does not have many of the video goodies that Vista and 7 do, particularly support for directx 9. P4 is about 1/10th as powerful as the Core2 Duo...4GB RAM is very good too. Even if PC physically works, it will probably be hellishly slow...like hours compared to minutes for some operations.
Yup, I agree that my desktop (tower) will probably be hellishly slow. I need to bite the bullet and replace the motherboard, CPU and Ram. Gotta research which graphics cards the editors can use accelleration on.

Please do post your results with Vegas Movie Studio and your ATI 5770 if you buy Vegas. Meanwhile I think I'll use my laptop for video editing until I can upgrade my tower PC.

Thanks a lot for your insights,
Sky

I am using Vegas on an XP system to edit the AVCHD lite files of the FZ35. There is no need to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 in this regard.

Could you share which version of Vegas and your system components?

Thanks,
Sky

Did problems running Vegas MSP9 in Vista cause you to downgrade to XP?

Your laptop is somewhat similar to mine and I'm running Vista 64 bit. I do have a second bootable Vista partition that I could install XP Pro in if necessary.

Thanks,
Sky

No. I had changed for business reasons when I got the notebook - Vegas was installed much later.

Here is another video from me taken with the FZ35 - this time with the LC55 macro lens - it is also doing a good job when taking videos. Editing was this time done with the new version from Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.

I hope you enjoy watching.
