Default Tortoise Talk

I was asked to give a tortoise husbandry presentation and said I would do an interactive show with husbandry mixed in. Turned out the crowd at the nature center was not overly needful of husbandry, so we played around instead.

Sophia was the first kid there. She helped me wash Sheila and do other chores as needed.

I would have preferred not to cut Bob's head off, but he is too tall, and needed to be there to throw bits of lettuce to keep Sheila (the tortoise) moving through the legs.

After the show I noticed a herd of deer on the grounds, and decided to set up a shot.

Nice pictures Steve, especially the first and the last. I like tortoises - they are quiet, active, mind their own business and do not come in others' ways. That one on the child's lap is cute. So is the child too. And the cautious look of the deer is so natural! Well done.

Thanks Raghu. Tortoises are very fine creatures in my opinion also. And, I had a lot of fun watching the deer. They did wonder about Sheila.

Thanks Sarah. Yeah, the middle shot is not a great one, but it gives an idea of the day so I had to include it.
