Default I had better introduce myself!

Well, I posted in the New member area, but since I have responded to a couple of posts in this forum already, I thought I had better be more formal about it to this community in particular.
I have just got back into photography (beyond family snapshots) after a 30 year hiatus. I recently purchased an FZ-35 with a Pemaraal PA62E adapter and an Olympus TCON17. My primary motivation was to use this as a tool to help with identification issues for my primary hobby, which is birding/birdwatching.
I have been reading with great interest all the tips and pointers towards achieving better results. My main issue so far seems to be getting focused on birds moving about in undergrowth, branches etc. I invariably end up with a twig in perfect focus across the body of a fuzzy bird-shaped object!!
Anyway, I am enjoying rediscovering photography and will probably be posting some of my less-embarrassing efforts at some time.
Glad to find such a nice bunch of folks!

Good to have you on board and glad you are enjoying getting back into photography.

If you've not spotted it we have a wildlife section as well so would be great to see some bird shots in there.

Happy shooting!!!

Hi Ian! Welcome to the forum!! I am still new, too. Looking forward to seeing some photos with your FZ 35. Really neat camera, lots of FZ 35 users around, too. All the best. Ned

Welcome Woodbadger - here's a bird shot for you. No limbs or branches.

Welcome Ian. I am just getting interested in whatever few birds are thriving here in hot Chennai. I look forward to more photos from you. The roadrunner is great.
Clint - your snap reminds me of one submitted by dswass in Dec 2004! http://forums.steves-digicams.com/pa...-aim-fire.html

Carolina Wren, right? I'd recognize that (ahem) profile anywhere!

Hi Ian,

I've had the same problem with birds and animals in Yellowstone not always being in focus due to a branch or twig etc. What has worked for me, when I take the time to do it, is change the focus to "spot focus" and make sure the dot is exactly on the subject.
