I think it's a shame that Panasonic dropped the Vivid setting. While some may think it's over the top, others may like the results. To me, the more options we, the users, have, the better. PP is not for every one. Many people prefer cameras that produce good images right out of the camera w/o having to spend hours in front of the computer adjusting this and that.

With that said, it's important to keep in mind that increasing Contrast will affect DR negatively. Since most P&S already have problems related to highlight clipping, cranking up Contrast to +2 will certainly reduce dynamic range.

Tullio-

Your statement is 100% true, and I agree with it. However, the OP is requesting a way to produce Vivid by adjusting his camera. He wants vivid with no PP.

Yes, I know. I just wanted to make sure he understands that by increasing Contrast to +2, he'll be reducing dynamic range and the camera may clip highlights much sooner. To me, that's a real bad thing. I much rather increase saturation and contrast in PP than having an image with unrecoverable blown highlights.

+1 saturation is plenty. I am a Canon fan and find that the +1 saturation is more than enough to bring me closer to "Canon color." iA has "Happy" mode btw which is the equivalent of vivid.

Sorry had some long hours this week and haven't had a chance to try it yet will tonight or this weekend. I'd seen the happy mode on the camera but couldn't understand what it was supposed to be, will try that as well and let you know tomorrow. Luckily my ZS3 still works just has numerous scratches on the lens that show in the pictures so I have that for comparison shots till I find the combination that works.
