Default FZ38 with Nikon TC-E15ED

Hi all just recived my FZ38, previously had a FZ28 and a Fujifilm HS10 for 3 days but we wont go into that. Has anyone got any photos when using the Nikon TC-E15ED
lens on the 38 or any advice on using it, pros or cons.
Cheers scoobydude

It does work, but I have not had a chance to use it all that much,
seams to work just fine, the few times I have used it.

You will need two extra tings thing to fit it to your camera
(1) DMW-LA3, its an 55.8mm to 55mm adapter tube
- there is another adapter over at Pemaraal, but I have not tried it
(2) 50mm to 55mm adapter

Here are a few pages that might help

The TC-E15ED has excellent IQ on the FZ35 unfortunately the vignetting is horrendous...sent mine back...I found two E17ED's and have not really had time to take a lot of pic's but they look very promising...the LT-55 works very well on the FZ35

I'm also noting with my TCON-17 that the image quality reduced by the TC almost equals the image quality reduced by the enhanced zoom feature. There isn't much difference IMO with a 1.7x TC but it is slightly better.

Enhanced zoom + TC = double the quality reduction IMO; and I have not had good results there.

I'd try the enhanced zoom for a while and see if you can get the desired results. I understand the FZ18 had a sharper image and TC's were good with that camera. I do like the TCON-17 and believe the Nikon should be better than the TCON; but for the price, I would consider a good filter kit.

Thanks for all the advice lads. I'm going to look at getting the TCON-17 for the momment. Just missed out on one on ebay

Just one last question. If you are using the TCON-17 on the FZ38 do you need anything other than the DMW-LA3, 55.8mm to 55mm adapter tube to get pin sharp pic's. I see on other forums people have tried spacer rings to give a little more distance between the TCON and the lens of the camera.

I'm fine with it scooby. I did read some place were the hood adapter coupled with the LA3 brought good results. I'm not too sure what the ideal spacer configuration is.

I did a little test today,

And that's fine for shots of birds, the moon, airplanes, animals and
so on, it works fine for how I will use it

Thanks for doing the test shots, yes I have too agree that if you going to put the lens on it would be great for the max zoom shots.

It looks perfect in that center bubble, but yes the edges are dark,
when I l had first looked at the pages I linked to in my earlier post,

this one

Panasonic DMC-FZ 30 User Guide

And this one in particular, its a sub page of the above,

Some High Quality Telephoto Converter Lenses

it looked like most of them had that problem.

And the DMW-LT55 was $100+ more than I paid for the TC-E15ED,
so for me, the TC-E15ED was just more economical LOL

If I can find a DMW-LT55 for $100 or less, and I have the money at
that time, I "might" consider upgrading, but I want the chance
to use the TC-E15ED more than I have, so far its working nicely
the few times I have used it, except for the dark edges.
