Default Used ZR1 vs ZS6

Hi All,

So I am having a bit of an internal struggle with value. I can either purchase a slightly used and returnable ZR1 for $160 or a new and returnable ZS6 for $240. The real question is: is the ZS6 worth $80 more for the extra zoom, better LCD, newer focusing software(?) and manual controls?

Frankly...I doubt if I will use the manual controls that much; how 'bout the rest?

thanks : )

Yes. I'd pony up the extra $80.

Perhaps logic might dictate that if you try the cheaper option first, and it doesn't work out, you can then go to plan B!

Just a thought :-)

It really is a question of your budget and what you want to do with the camera. Does the somewhat larger size of the ZS6 matter to you? If so, maybe the ZR1 is a better choice.

The LCD may or may not be an issue. This is something you will be using all of the time and a larger LCD with better resolution can be very nice. I currently have a ZR1 (in a trial period) and a Canon S90. The latter has a 3 inch screen with 460,000 pixels and it really does make a difference. Whether that difference is worth $80 is, unfortunately something only you will be able to decide. Same is true about the zoom range. I believe the auto focus system may be the same on both.

As Greg suggested, if you don't have any issue possibly making a return, you can always try the ZR1 and see if you are happy first. However, if you are the type of person who will always ask yourself "what if?", it may be worth the $80. Or, if you have the money to lay out initially, you could try both at the same time and keep the one that feels right to you. I don't usually suggest this because I believe in doing research before hand to the extent possible, but sometimes you just honestly won't know how you feel until you handle the cameras.

Good luck.
