Can you stop the annoying blowing of the horns? Haha...I watched some of the Germany/Australia match and had to turn the sound down!

Thanks for these great images!

yes... I'm taking ear plugs to the match .... each vuvuzela has a decibel rating higher than that of a chainsaw. But they are an institution here.... and even FIFA seems unwilling to take on this tradition in SA that dates back decades.
Its only soccer/football fans that use them though. Its not something that Rugby or Cricket fans here like either!

Its actually not such an old tradition, recently ruined by influx of cheap plastic chinese horns...

Depends what you mean by "old" - They started being used by the mid 1970's here and in Mexico,
so at least 35 years. Made of metal at first... now plastic.
There are photos taken in Soweto in 1970s showing them in use.

We have got some reports on the BBC that the World Cup organiser Danny Jordaan is considering banning them at matches as several broadcasters and "individuals" have complained about the perceived lack of crowd singing / chanting due to it being drowned out by the horns. I must admit, for the first game it was quite novel but now it is just an incessant droning.
Enjoy the matches, England to lose to Spain in the final.
