Default FZ40 and FZ100 specifications from Pany site.

Hi all Pany fans, this is my first post.
At last some real information about fz40 and fz100.
To be honest, I’m pretty disappointed with spec sheets.
I think the real test will be in IQ tests and in particular in IQ at low light.
I was hoping for something a bit more than a mild FZ35 refresh.

DMC FZ-40

DMC FZ-100

Main key deference from FZ45/48:

(FZ40 and FZ100 has the same body of fz35/38)
- Lens increased from 18X to 24x.
- 14.1 Megapixel,
- 25mm Ultra Wide-Angle LEICA.
- FZ40: 1/2.33-inch / 14.5 Total Megapixels
- FZ100: 1/2.33-inch / 15.1 Total Megapixels
- FZ40: No flash hotshoe.
- FZ100: Has a flash hotshoe.
- FZ40: 720p HD Movie Recording
- FZ100: Full HD Movie Recording.

Philippe.

Default FZ100 looks really good to me.

Phillipe,

It seems to me that, yes, the FZ40 is a relatively minor upgrade, however, the FZ100 breaks a lot of new ground for Pany superzooms.

1. Full HD video
2. 3" free angle LCD, I think this means articulating.
3. 11fps full rez bursts for 15 frames
4. Hot shoe
5. 60fps high speed bursts at 3.5 megapixels
6. In camera video dividing
7. Intelligent zoom of 32X (I have no idea what that means!)

My hope is that the IQ is as good as the FZ35. If so, I'll have one very soon.

It's a crop, using less MP, maybe 5 MP.

I wondered if it was something different that EZ zoom which is listed somewhere else as a feature. Maybe it does something automatically without having to select lower mp manually as you do on the FZ 35 and others?

I like EZ zoom and expect that I'll like "Intelligent zoom" even if I don't know what it is.

This is from ZR3 press release:
" ... Intelligent Zoom function, which takes advantage of the newly-added Intelligent Resolution technology. Intelligent Resolution, a component of Intelligent Auto mode, helps to maintain optimal picture quality by capturing higher quality signal processing and through the detection of three areas - outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation examining them pixel by pixel to enhance any degradation created during the digital zoom process or in high-sensitivity shooting. As a result of Intelligent Resolution, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and video recording. "

Maybe someone can make heads or tails ...

Default FZ40 -> Touch Screen LCD

I noticed an interesting feature in the FZ-40,

LCD Monitor: 3.0 Inch. TFT Touch Screen LCD Display

In the specs, however, it also says:
Touch Panel No

Hmmm ...

Well, not exactly. The FZ100 is slightly larger than the FZ40:

FZ100
4.89 x 3.20 x 3.74 in
Weight(lbs) Approx. 1.19lb with Battery and SD Memory Card
Approx. 1.09lb without Battery and SD Memory Card

FZ40
4.74 x 3.14 x 3.62 in
Weight(lbs) Approx. 1.10lb with Battery and SD Memory Card (1.10 lb)
Approx. 1.00lb without Battery and SD Memory Card (1.00 lb)
