Just to add that I am really enjoying my 38 but wish there were more hints from others about some of its capabilities and uses.

Anyone found any interesting tricks/settings?

So you should be enjoying your camera, just experiment with the settings especially the white balance and exposure compensation, jot down what you do and compare. I am sure you can get just as good a picture as the latest camera with all the whistles and bells. Do not even think of upgrading until your camera dies, because there is no such thing as a perfect camera, my FZ50 has its downside, not a wide angle, noisy at high ISO, AE lock button in an awkward place, diopter view wheel to loose, but I wouldn't swap it for the latest super-zoom out. keep shooting.

What in the world has caused you to become doubtful about FZ38? There are probably lots of people who would kill to have your camera. Big positives are that it has equal or better IQ than the replacement P&Ss and does not require the proprietary battery. The camera is a keeper. I still love and use an FZ7!
