Default Hello

Hi

Just bought a Fz38 today but know zero about photography really .
A few quick questions
1. How does the lens hood attach exactly (don't want to scratch anything)
2. How do i activate the digital zoom ?

Any other hints on the basics would be appreciated as this camera appears much more complex than my previous camera (Dimage Z1)

Thanks
Darren

There is a small adapter ring that screws on the lens barrel. The hood can be mounted on top of that adapter ring.
Digital zoom is turned on in the REC menu by setting ON for Digital Zoom.
If you go to Panasonic's site, you can download pdf manual but you get that in the CD as well.

Welcome Forzahibs .

I just want to add that I would avoid using Digital Zoom whenever possible, as it reduces the image quality dramatically.

If you plan to zoom in a very lot, you would do a better job changing the amount of MegaPixels to 3. When doing this, your optical zoom is increased to, I thought, 24x max. And that's without losing the quality of the image.

I didn't know that! So, isn't it better to have a lot more focal length, than more (useless) pixels? I have seen 500kb pictures as clear and sharp (if not better) as the 5Mb ones...

You will see a big difference when you print the photos. Computer screens are all at a set amount of pixels so you will not see much if any difference on the screen.
