Default FZ100 Right before I killed it

This evening my son came in and called me out to the front porch. He said you got to see this spider web, it's huge.
Well I guess it was but the only thing I could see was this large menacing spider in the middle of it.
My first thought was kill it. My second thought was take a picture then kill it.
I went with the second thought.
And don't anybody tell me that this is a such and such spider and completely harmless. I've seen to many monster movies. You look like this and are near my home you die.
Not a perfect shot but there was only so long I was going to stand anywhere near it.

Yes it's a Garden Spider...you should have caught a cricket and threw it in the web to allow your son to see how fast they are at wrapping a cricket up...a really cool spider...I was feeding mine everyday, but the 5 yr old decided he needed to catch the spider with his frog net...we haven't seen the spider since...lol

This is what they look like cleaned up...yours was probably covered in something trying to disguise herself...

You must be glad that LT's spider was not in the web, lol, sooo huge. I'm not fond of spiders either I have to say, but love your story, and made me laugh and smile (not laughing at you, or in any offensive way)

Now he has a great looking spider there.
I don't know if mine was covered in something or it was just the lighting. It was dark out side when I took this and had to use the flash. I should have decreased the flash output.
