Two different species of iron weed - one bloomed a month ago. The other only a few blooms left.

I definitely like the first shot better. The second looks way over sharpened (at least on my monitor).

Curious how the camera interprets things differently. No sharpening was done and the "Picture Adj" was the same for both.

If you don't mind posting the same pictures with the full EXIF data, I can take a look and see if there's other internal settings the camera is choosing that can cause such a dramatic difference between the two images in terms of sharpening. After I read your comments, i opened the post on my desktop to see if the problem was being caused by my laptop screen but the image looked the same...over sharpened.
