Jake-

That is a perfect example of where spot metering would have let you avid that "dark photo" problem.

Sarah thank you, I'll try that.

I think I am also partly to blame for this since I was testing the camera.. I'm standing atleast 8 feet away zoomed in and had to use the flash. This was taken at dusk with very little light. Also I took this in RAW not jpeg, so I salvaged it.

I think it looks good...like the way it highlighted the flowers...could be cropped for composition a little better and go ahead and darken the shadows all the way out until only the flowers are spotlighted...
