Default A "Class" question

Is there any advantage to getting a class 10 sdhc card as opposed to a class 6 card?

Would the class 10 allow fast "burst" pictures in the FZ40 or FZ35?

Or would only smoother videos be the only benefit?

Well class 10 is supposed to be a little faster.

For example writing speed on class 6 SD card is 7.2 Mbits/sec
Class 10 is supposed to be 12 Mbits/sec

But our raw images are likely 12 MBytes ( 1 Byte = 8 bits) so it'll take 8 seconds to write it on a class 10.

However if you look at TigerDirect, they sell class 10 cards for pretty much the same price (within $2) as class 6 cards on amazon so I ended up getting a class 10 even when there was no need to, just to be future proof.

Hope that helps.

Edit: Here is the link to the direct item: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=5625853 but it looks like they sold out.

Thanks Jyaku. I know the PC can use the speed but I'm reading different things on whether the camera can take advantage of the the higher read/writes.

I've noticed the same on the price difference.

Clint there have been many test ran on these by various Geeks...search the forum and I'll bet you'll find some data...once you get to Class 6 your basically topped out as for as a camera can process data and going to Class 10 wouldn't help except for maybe video...

When you go to a CF Card then the camera can move data much more efficiently...Compact Flash Card that is...thats why you will see them in the Canon Cameras etc...

What I've been able to find so far seems to suggest that.

So Canon uses a different card from Panasonic?

Ditto on Class 6 being all the camera can handle. I don't think there's any way to increase the burst speed on a camera.

Clint, if you haven't tried the high speed burst in the SCN mode, give it a whirl. I used it during Little League season and it was fine. There is speed mode and image mode. I couldn't tell the difference in quality but speed works much better for stopping the action.

FZ 40 - I thought that might be the case. I tried the "burst" shooting in the quick menu(that was slow - only 3 shots) and also the SCN burst mode - much faster but smaller file size.

I thought a class 10 card might increase the rate in the quick menu.
