Sony's claim for their proprietary batteries is that it ensures that the camera knows the correct state of charge on the battery and can calculate & display time remaining (till camera shut down).

The lack of availability of batteries for these new cameras amazes me. It has to be a gigantic screw up by Panasonic.

About the Chinese batteries, I sure agree with Sarah Joyce. Buyer beware!

This is a genuine battery...expensive but it is the first listed on the Ebay link...and it is Panasonic...

I am going to order the Chinese Battery with Charger (AC/DC Charger) to get the DC Charger for the truck...will report back when I check the battery out...

Im betting it will work fine as it is Panasonic brand. It is generic, unbranded or non-panasonic brands (eg, GNB) which wont work. Although these manufacturers can fulfill the electrical technical specifications and form factor, they do not have rights to the proprietary portions of the electrical interface.

PS: Went thru this dance with Thomas Battery already. Thomas stated that their batteries were compliant, but they were not. After swapping a couple different brands, I think that they were finally convinced that their third party batteries are in fact not compliant in cases where compliance is required.
