Well thats how we refer to them in Australia anyway.

He was about 12 metres away and trying hard to hide behind a twig in my sons backyard.

Cheers

Wait a minute...is my monitor that bad??? This picture looks way over exposed to me and colors a totally washed out. Sorry, it's a good capture but I can't say it's a beautiful shot. Of course this is my sole opinion.

Tullio, your monitor is fine or mine is out of whack as well. Ditto on the diagnosis...

The right side of his face is over-exposed, but I wouldn't say it's washed out. The pink of his body is rich and I can see lot of details of the feathers. Considering he was 30+ feet away, I'd say it's a great snap shot of an elusive wild bird. OK, I'll take back the "beautiful shot" comment and replace it with "great capture".

Appreciate the comments. Yep it's a bit light on the side of his head and the sun was quite bright from memory, but he is a proud Galah isn't he ?

Cheers

Hi Pat, I have read the negs concerning your pic so I had to see what I could do with it. I wasn't going to post it but it made some differences, so here it is. Hope you don't mind... Let me know, I can take it down if you wish...

Pat - I could be wrong because I've never seen this bird in real life, but I've seen them on TV and their color looked more of a pale pink like your original photo. Hawgwild's image is pretty, but do they look like that in real life?

Saly you are spot on about the bird being pale pink. My original image is more like it in real life. Almost exactly actually !

Hawgwild I appreciate your adjusted image but it's nothing like what a galah really looks like. He now looks "sunburnt" for want of a better word.

I did originally sharpen the image a little beacuse when I reduced it lost a bit of it's crispness.

In the old days of black & white in my darkroom I would have used a device to prevent it being burnt in on the side of his head for a few seconds. I guess there's a way I can do it PS, I'll experiment in due course.

As an aside, I found a site with a live webcam in Australia for Pink Galahs, if anyone is interested.

http://www.backyardgalahcam.com.au/ I have nothing to do with the site, I just read about it in a magazine.

regards, and thanks for the comments, they're appreciated.

Pat
