Default Trying to take pictures of the moon with FZ38

These nights I'm having a clear night sky with full moon. I own a FZ38 and I tried to take pictures of the moon, but I didn't succeeded. All I got was a yellow shallow disc. No details !

My questions: what settings should I use? And the second question: how to focus on the moon? I didn't succeeded to focus at all.

I took this a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure I was in "P" mode, ISO 200. The camera set the following: exposure 1/125, aperture 4.4. Focal length says 86mm, so I believe that is almost full 18x zoom. I wasn't using a tripod, but braced the camera on a solid object.

Here is what I did,

(1) I used a Tripod
(2) I used Manual Settings
(3) "Metering" set to "Spot"
(4) "AF Mode" set to "Spot"
(5) "White Balance" set to "Auto White Balance"
(6) "Intelligent Exposure" set to "Off"
(7) "Picture Size" set to "3m"
(8) Adjust your "F-Stop" to around "F4.5" to "F5.0"
(9) Adjust the shutter speed until the "Manual Exposure Assistance Meter" shows just under "+1"
(10) Set the "Selftimer" for "10SEC"
(11) Take Picture

I based that from some info / guides in this forum, just search the forum
for more hints and tips on taking images of the moon
