username/password are panasonic/lumix [edit: thx kibaris]

It looks like a valid upgrade but I agree it is odd why it hasn't been formally published. I'm going to try it out later today and will post some controlled before/after comparison shots if all goes well.

Default I did it

I updated yesterday.

What I can confirm is that the update finished successfully.

What I can't say is what exactly improves, because I just bought the camera and I don't have anything to compare to (relatively to the original firmware).

So ask me what to look for and I'll tell you what I can see.

A few before/after samples (100% crop) with the original on the left and the version after the firmware update on the right. I did a full reset before taking these so these are all on the factory default settings. I'd summarise by saying that I don't think there's a major improvement but I could be convinced that detail is surviving the in-camera noise reduction a bit better. It might be enough that you can increase the in-camera NR by a step.

a full-zoom shot of a bottle of wine on the other side of the room. The first version looks a bit more blurred but that could just be because it's hand-held

#2 - crop of a non-zoomed shot of my desk

#3 - Another crop of the same shot. The subtle second shadow on the wall seems to have survived better in the new version

It's for FZ38 so will it limit video to 30 minutes when applied on FZ35?

1/ Format a blank SD card in your camera
2/ Download the .exe onto your PC
3/ Run the exe on your PC which creates a .bin file for you
4/ Put the .bin file in the top directory on the SD Card
5/ Put the SD card in the camera and switch it on

It asks you if you want to apply the upgrade and assuming you say yes it takes about 20 seconds then goes back into its normal mode.

If you can't write SD cards on your PC there is some way to do it direct to the camera using the USB cable but I haven't tried that method.

I took before and after photos and nothing changed...maybe it was only for the European FZ38 and the Stateside FZ35 already had the software upgrade...????
