Default LC1 memory card error

No matter what card I put in there I keep getting a "memory card error" reading.
It was working fine with Kingston 2 gig card just about an hour ago, that I tried a SanDisk Extreme III 4 gig. That is when it started to give me the error reading.
After that I tried two more of the same card, same results.
Now it gives me the error message even with the Kingston 2 gig.
I tied cleaning the contacts, but didn't work.
Is there anything else I can do ?
Any help is appreciated.

Try leaving the card out. Then do a factory reset.
Then try to put the card back in.

Thank you Clint. What I have gone to the Setup menu and Reset both Parameters and recording settings.
Is it what you refer to as factory settings ?
Unfortunately it didn't work.

That's correct - factory settings.
Check the cards "lock" switch (on the side) to be sure it's not "write protected".

You might also try reformatting the card on a PC.
Then see if camera accepts it.

Thanks Clint
I checked the the switch as well, it is set in the right position.
Formatted a new 2 gig card in the computer, but that didn't work either.
I wonder if putting in the 4 gig SDHC card previously damaged the contacts, but it really shouldn't have

Can you see into the camera where the card goes? Maybe some debris?
I don't see how the card could damage the contacts since they should be the same size. But that may have done it since it was working before. Sounds like it needs to go to the "camera doctor".

Thanks Clint.
I was thinking about the dirt inside of the camera as well.
I cannot see anything, but used an air blower regardless.
Needless to say it didn't weork

It sounds bad. That's about all I can think to do.

Will the camera take pictures with the internal memory?

Might try a firmware update or re-install if that's available.

Have you tried to take out the battery for a while? Perhaps your camera needs a soft reset...

Thank you guys.
I am letting the camera "rest" for a while, see if it cures itself.
Clint, I cannot find the firmware for this camera to reinstall it .
Searched the web, nothing.
I can take a picture without the card in the camera, but doesn't look like it gets saved
