Default Spider closeup

Trying out some more macro stuff around the garden. This is a golden orb weaving spider; the large female spider lines up her catch as trophies in the web behind her - to attract the small male, who she may eat!

It was blowing in the wind, but I took it from extremely close (less than an inch) in sunlight, so it was a fast shutter:



Here's a crop of it - the FZ40 captures quite a lot of detail:

Great close-ups. Did you have a close-up lens attached or was it straight out of the camera? How big was the spider? I'm asking this because I had a very small (less than 1cm) spider which I found it very difficult to focus on.

This was with the FZ40 standard lens, fully wide (25mm equiv) from about 1 or 2 cm away (i.e. less than an inch). Notice that I took the photo from the other side of the web

The spider is quite big - certainly not hard to focus on!
