I just did a web search on African Water Rail and some of them do have red eyes, but they also have a red beak so maybe yours was a juvenile?

It's interesting to me what that little camera can do.

I've had mine just a couple of weeks and REALLY enjoy it. I'm glad I broke my "no more cameras without an EVF" pledge and went for the ZS7. It is so handy and quick into action that I find it my "go to" camera with the FZ100 and FZ35 waiting in the wings. What impresses me is not only the image quality but the versatility. I can get 10fps high speed zoom and 24X EZ zoom, both 3X but nice quality. The video is stunning.

Amazing sharpness. The last one is damn good. I can rest satisfied that I recommended ZS7 when a friend of mine asked me which is the best pocket camera to buy. I should show your post to him. Great shots!
