Thanks for the second photo of the horses, MidnightMan-

The spots are gone. That's good. However, the backlighting issue remains.

Don't let backlighting worry you, it's something we have to work with a lot. The most important thing to do is expose for your subject. Here I'm guessing that the horses are the important element so you actually want to use positive exposure compensation or better still to shoot in manual.
