Default FZ40 question

It was suggested to use the "Spot focus"; rather than the "Center point focus". How do we change this? If I'm in the right place, it just shows "icons", & I'm not sure which is which.

Thanks all!

Carol-

Thanks for allowing us to clear-up the confusion. "Spot focus" and "Center Point" focus are indeed the very same thing.

Sara Joyce; thanks for the reply!

Wes: it was confusing when it's listed Optical zoom, Intelligent zoom, EZ optical zoom, and finally digital zoom.

Carol

You also have to keep in mind that there are several special use, resolution restricted modes such as AF Macro and the High Sensitivity Scene Mode which are resricted to 3mp.

Therefore, to make those modes useful, you have to be ready to increase the resolution (image size) in your photo editing software. I have attached a sample photo taken with the FZ40 set to the High Sensitivity Scene Mode. The lighting came from a 60W light bulb in a ceiling fixture. The exposure was F 2.8 at 1/50th at ISO 3200.

Not sure about that answer....

EZ does not use digital zoom at all, as far as I know. It's an extended "optical" zoom. The trade off is image quality as you must decrease your megapixels to tap into it.

That's what I was wondering; from the manual, it didn't appear to include the digital zoom in the EZ zoom.

Very gloomy day here, so am really studying the manual!

There may be a difference in the FZ35, but with mine, if I set the image size lower (8 mp), the camera will allow me to go beyond the optical zoom limit (18x with mine), then go into Extended Optical Zoom (EZ) up to 35x. Beyond that point, it will switch over to digital zoom unless I have the digital zoom turned off.
