Default Recommended accessories/FZ40

Just want to get some ideas for accessories. On my list now I have:

Panasonic Close-up lens DMW-LC55 with LA5 Adapter

I'm considering the Olympus TCON-17 (1.7) Teleconverter (Need Panasonic dig. still camera lens adaptor?)

Price is a major consideration; but would be interested in what all of you have to suggest as to what you would consider the best options for the above, and anything else!

I do have a monopod w/quickrelease head, & store-away 3 feet on order.

Thanks everyone. Also down the road, the G1 is calling me to accompany my FZ40.

The LC55 closeup lens produces excellent results, as you recently saw Clint's award winning Lizzy shot! It's inexpensive and a lot of fun to use, very versatile. I don't leave home without it!!!

I don't own a tele-converter, but that also produces great results as you see LTZ's bird photos. One thing I'm not clear is which model of TCON to get because Olympus makes several TCON-17 models. You should probably send a PM to LTZ to be sure exactly which model number to order. Another alternative is to get the Panasonic DMW LT-55, which is the same magnification, just made by Panasonic. Both Oly and Panasonic tele-converter need the LA5 adapter, the same one you need for the close-up lens.

Hi Saly! I'm definitely going to get the LC55 close-up lens. The reason I was considering the Olympus tele-converter was price; around $80, compared to $200 for the Panasonic LT-55. I've read that it gives nice results; but again wanted input from all of you, with much more experience with the FZ's.

Just do a little more research (i.e. ask LTZ) before you get the TCON. I know that Olympus used to make an excellent TCON17 that cost about the same as the LT55, but it's been discontinued. The newer TCONs are much cheaper but I haven't read too many good reviews - but again I'm not the expert on tele-converters.... I would hate to see you buy something you won't be happy with.

Don't worry Saly; that accessory is a ways down the road, & I certainly will go on the recommendations of you people here! After all, you're the ones that convinced me to buy the FZ40!

After the monopod, I'll be getting the closeup access. as I think I'll get a lot of usage & fun out of it!

I corrected the link to some macro shots used with the close up lens if your interested... Ignore the first set since they were degraded when I first posted. Check the two on the second page. I think you will see they are better.
Focusing with it takes a little getting used to. I haven't quite got the hang of using it yet. http://forums.steves-digicams.com/pa...est-shots.html

Zos; that really does do a great job! I think I'll get a lot of use out of it!

Is it the LA5 or the LA3 adapter needed for the Tcon?

It's the LA3 for TCON, LC55 and LT55.

Glad this is clarified! I thought I'd read with the FZ40 that the LA5 was used for the close-up lens (LC55), and for the LT55!
