Default filter with FZ35

new owner of FZ35 here and new to the photography (owned P&S before, this is the first "serious camera" if it qualifies), and I'm glad that I found this forum, lot of useful information, thanks guys.

I am thinking to buy a uv filter to protect the lens and from what I have read, Hoya HMC could be a good starting point. There is one on ebay for 16.95$ (other place ~20$)
http://cgi.ebay.com/46mm-Hoya-HMC-UV...item588bd2a2e4

Do you guys have any experience for this filter with FZ35, and this seller?

Thank you!

Hoya is a good brand. If the eBay seller has a good rating and if the shipping is not too much, you're probably going to do well.

thank you Saly. The seller has 100% rating with 45935 fb, and shipping is free.

Probably I should ask this question first, is it worth to spend 17$ on uv filter for FZ35? 17$ is not too much, but every penny counts... :-)

htw - yes, I think it's worth owning. I don't always have mine on because I usually take it off when I use my macro conversion lens. But for those occasions when I'm going to spend a day on the beach, it sure protects the main lens!

Not to hijack the thread as OP has made a wise purchase.

Are you trying to mount the filter on the camera barrel 55mm or the retractable lens. 46 mm is 46 mm so if it isn't 46 mm maybe +/- .2mm, I'd ask for a refund.

Also 3cm = 30mm ? so you got a 46mm-30mm = 16mm filter ?

You mean its 3mm too small ?

Here is one of the sellers negs

Sent me a 58mm instead of the 55mm that is stated in the description.Buyer: Member id prizefighter30 ( Feedback Score Of 104)

If it's a 46 mm filter then I think it should fit the the end of the extended lens barrel.

I have an FZ35 which is the same as FZ38, and my inner lens barrel is 46mm. And I do have a 46mm UV filter on it. So yours should fit too. Does the filter say 46mm on the side? Diameter is usually printed someplace on the frame. You're not trying to put in on the outer barrel (which is 55.8mm)?
