Kibaris - looking at your picture in post #2 I see you have a 55mm filter screwed onto the lens hood adapter ring. Surely this is not an ideal fit (is this why you need to glue it?) - the front thread of the ring diameter is the same as the camera barrel which is 55.8mm not 55mm. I originally tried to attach a 55mm ND filter this way & was afraid it was going to crack the hood ring as it is not exact size. So I purchased the adapter for the FZ38 which steps down slightly from 55.8 to 55 to give a proper fit & for use with the Raynox & LC55 close-ups. The lens cap that came with the camera fits properly onto the attached hood ring & I tend to keep this ring permanently on the camera as it gives slightly extended protection to the lens & prevents me dinting the outer lens barrel (& possibly damaging the thread) if I knock into something.

Yes brownie, I know it is not the ideal fit, but it works! So, as far as I can understand, we definately need the extension tube, to protect the (real) lens from crashing on the attachment, I guess the same applies with every attachment-brand. So now that I am looking for a wide angle converter (for the fz38) what diameter am I looking for? Is it 55mm? I found on the net several (not many) w/a converters with different diameters, which one should I order?Thank again all of you, this forum seems to come handy whenever one needs it!a.p.s. Anyway, the camera is very high quality, but this kind of technical design seems to me at least funny!

Something more...When a w/a converter has a factor of "0,50", this means that gives this factor all the way throuout the range of 18X of the camera? So the range "27 to 486" becomes "13,5 to 248"?

I got the adapter ring DMW-LA3 (I bought the branded Panny one on special offer in December, but believe there are cheaper options available) - which as I said above has a front thread of 55mm. With this LA3 I can now add anything with a 55mm thread, including a step-up or step-down ring should I find an attachment I want that is not 55mm.

IMHO the LA3 ought to be part of the basic camera kit. Or the barrel should be 55mm not the very strange 55.8mm!

BTW - I see you are in Athens. I will be there on my first visit in 2 weeks time - lookout for my FZ38 doing overtime at all those amazing sites & sights!!
