Default A Grebe or Two

These are one of my favorite birds to watch, just because they are so pretty.

For reasons unknown I had set the Noise Reduction to +2 for this one, which was way too much, but since they are called Horned Grebes and this shot shows why I am posting it anyway.

This is sort of halfway between Winter drab colors and the above breeding colors.

Nice shots. I love the water in #1 and the fish catch.

Absolutely love the feather detail and the water! Great photos happy. This 'horned grebe' looks like a cousin to our 'great crested grebe' — a quite intriguing character. #3 is the epitome of being 'in the right place etc'. Well taken.

Thanks all. Glad you like these birds. And Bernice, these are grebes so related, but not near as large or impressive as yours based on pictures I have seen. I like them though.

Steve we've got big ones and littl'uns. I've been fortunate lately in getting pics of two of the varieties we have here. They are posted at http://forums.steves-digicams.com/wi...ed-grebes.html (big'uns) and http://forums.steves-digicams.com/wi...der-puffs.html (littl'uns). The one I've yet to see is the hoary-headed grebe.

I agree, they're really interesting, cute and, in the case of crested grebes, different.

The eyes of these birds look a bit demonic ^^, but very nice shots, I like # 3 with the fish catch
