Default FZ40 Flash not working

Last week while on holiday my flash stopped working. I was taking some photos in low light, took 2 and then on the third no flash. Not sure if the bulb has blown or something to do with the electrics. Only bought it last November and have not used the flash much. Anyone else had this problem. Cheers.

Sorry for asking the obvious question, but you didn't accidentally bump it into burst mode, did you?

what I have discovered is that the flash works depending in what mode you are using. The flash doesnt work in some modes and does not really know when to flash when in a mode it should work in.

Then you have to set the camera to force the flash I believe.

What mode are you working in? Maybe others can chime in here.

I was using P mode at the time. I have since tried other modes that need flash and nothing.

Guess so. The night it stopped working I was turning off the camera a lost before I closed the flash, so perhaps I forced something in the electronics.

I have the same problem. Low light shots and no flash after. I've tried forced flash and different settings, no help. I've done what the manual suggests also. Camera never been dropped or forced. Any help?

The manual mentions not to close the flash too soon after taking a picture because it causes a malfunction.
It also mention flash not working when using Auto Bracket or Burst .
Page 68 of the advanced user manual shows details of modes where the flash is and isn't available.
If none of these things applies, then I would use Reset in the Setup menu.
