Default FZ40 & Oly wcon 0.7x Combo....

Hi Y'all,

I'm interested to try out the FZ40 with the Olympus wide conversion lens 0.7x.
Does anyone have any experience with this combo?
Images and advice would be appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

G'day UJ

I have the FZ35 + LA3 adapter used regularly for 55mm filters use
When I attach a 1,5x or 2x lens attachment, I get a full image (tho with poor sharpness as they are poor lenses)

When I attach a 0,7x attachment I get a circular image covering about 2/3 of the sensor
If I zoom out to get a full image, the camera goes to 3x zoom - thus completely defeating the 0,7x lens

So when I use the 0,7x I need to hand-hold it in front of the main lens [that lens being at 1x anyway - thus I have an effective focal length of (24mm x 0,7) = 17mm

I am planning to give the LA3 adapter to someone with a precision metal lathe to cut it to half length & rethread it to 55mm thread so that I can mount the 0,7x lens and still use the camera on 1x zoom

Hope this makes sense
Regards, Phil

Default Adapter for wcon 0.7.....

Hello Phil,

Thanks for mentioning your ideas. I believe that the LA3 adapter is a little shorter than LA5, other than that everything else is the same.

I know that I should not put the wcon0.7 straight onto the FZ40 lens barrel, however l'd like to try with a step down ring size 52-58mm. What are your suggestions on that?

The good thing about wcon0.7 lens is that it's pretty light and built with plastics. I noticed the shorter adapter generally gives you a wider angle.

Hello Phil,

What I meant was... since wcon0.7x has 55mm rear thread, so that just use the step down ring 55-52mm straight on FZ40 lens barrel. Not sure it's gonna work or not!!!

G'day Jeff

Ahhhh - so the FZ40 uses 52mm filters etc??? what a bugger to change from the 55mm that Panny have used for many years ... it means that 'old' users now need to buy a new series of attachments [like your step-down ring]

Regards, Phil

Hello Phil,

Oh well...whatever the manufacturers produced we've another way to twist and turn it around for useful, is that right!

Anyway, if you've tried the adapter cut and used it please share the results.

Thanks again,
Jeff
