Jeff, good series with the Canon 500D.

Did you use manual focus? I find I get better results if I leave focus set to Auto, manual focus seems to blur for me

Square one,

I did try manual focus, however your hand has to be steady as rock...otherwise use a tripod...finally I set to AF (in M mode) and forget to set the metering mode to center weighted instead of spot.

Thanks for sharing...
Jeff

More nice shots Jeff - you're getting great results from the 500d!

Thanks for your comment, Mick. I'd like to try some night shots, however after dinner I changed my mind.

Oh! by the way, what's the basic secret of your night shots shooting!!!
You've been shooting those images so perfectly.

Jeff,
- A good support; I'm using a small denim bag of rice instead of a tripod.
- Keep the ISO low (I use 80 almost all the time).
- Aperture around f/4.0 or f/5.0
- Use 2 second timer so it's steady for the shot.
- Just practise using manual mode with long exposures, get used to what the camera does around dusk and at night with 4 seconds, 8 seconds, 40 seconds etc.

Mick,
Thanks for the advices. I might have a chance to get out & take some shots this 4th July weekend.
