And I HATE that mini-USB connector. It's so tiny and hard to see which way it goes in.... (I know, a younger person would not have this issue....)

Carol, I use a Giottos tripod which uses a quick release system (mh620 release plate)

You can also buy the mh630, which comes with 1 mh620 plate and a base unit that you attach to your own tripod.

Draw backs.... yes it does cover the battery hatch due to the placing of the tripod bush on the fz40/45.

I use the mini usb lead for downloads, Windows xp, vista, and 7 will ask the first time you use it what you want to do with the connected device (the camera), I use 'open folder' so that you see all the saved images on the SD card.
