Default Trip to the Beach

We went away to the beach last weekend; a few friends were camping there, but we stayed in the motel.

1. Long exposure of the surf. I used a friend's ND400 (i.e. 8 stop) neutral density filter to take a very long daylight shot of the surf:

2. Bicycle light orb. I waded out into the water on a very dark night and spun this orb with the bike tail light on a piece of string. When I finished I tried to catch the light but it slipped off the string and plonked into the water - you can see that in the picture:

3. Fire soccer / golf. The kids played fire soccer, which involves a burning ball. When the ball got too hot someone hit it with a golf club but it stuck on the club. Not dangerous at all...

4. A steel wool burn. I took a large roll of steel wool and a small gas blowtorch which worked really well for lighting it. This was such a dark night that even a 60 second exposure didn't pick up any background or sky. As I waded out into the water, hundreds of fish were jumping to get away.

And a good time was had by all.
I love the effect of the water with the ND filter and the spinning orb.
