I think the sensor is 4:3 so the camera just do the cropping instead of you when you take photos in 16:9 or 3:2. I just do the cropping when I pp

Isn't quality the same just your losing pixels on top and bottom?

And then to make this discussion more difficult is the vertical shooting. Widescreen and 3:2 are so long looking. This just I hate vertical on anything but 4:3! And why are they so long is it just an optical illusion because it looks much longer to me then it does horizontal!

3:2 because I generally only get 6x4 prints and I find it simpler to compose my shots that way.

That second shot is great.Beautiful colors a good composition.

Usually, the difference between formats is simply top/bottom cropping as you go from 4:3 to 3:2 to 16:9. You don't really gain anything on the width. Since 4:3 gives you the most, might as well shoot 4:3 and crop the image as you wish. That way you don't need to bother making changes to the format in camera before taking each shot.
