Default where i live, by the sea :)

this is the beautiful marina at Ramsgate in Kent, the town where i live. it was a day after the snow we had here, cleared. it wasnt great weather but ive been itching to go out for weeks and what better than some lovely sea air?

apparently we're getting sunshine over the next few days, so with a bit of luck i'll be out to get some better shots to show you my town

wish it was a better day, looking at it on here it looks even more washed out thanks to the sky and poor conditions. cant wait for the good weather to return

making my limited photography skills look even worse lol

Hi John, I know what you mean about the weather. Even here, we are having cold, then warm and rain, then cold, etc. It's midnight here and I'm on my laptop, so I don't know how this pic is going to look to you, but I did some minor tweaking, and colored the sky and water, just for fun. I have Photoshop Elements, and sometimes I play with my pictures this way, especially if the sky is blown out, or if the horizon needs straightening. Hope you don't mind.

i like what youve done to it Robert, made it look like it had been taken on a much better day. not sure the sea there has ever looked THAT appealing though lol. what tools did you use to change it, i also have PSE but im nowhere near as good at altering photos.

thanks for taking the time to help out.
much appreciated,

john

Those are difficult conditions. Sometime I have better luck having AE-Lock turned on in the menu and then use spot metering and just hunt around until I get the best exposure balance in the image then lock it. Then you can frame your image and take the shot.

I tried some PP on the image but I like Robert's better.

You guys are WAY too kind. JJ, the only difference between your pp and mine is color saturation and choice of sky color. I'm on a laptop, so color for me is a crapshoot at times. lol. John, I used the paint fill tool to color the sky and water, saturation increase to make the color pop out a little more, and the straighten tool to straighten the horizon. It never ceases to amaze me what a little post processing can do. There are people here at Steves that are pro level at this, Paul Bynx is one, Walter Coles, and many more, but it's after one am, so my brain is running half speed.
