Default Very sad news - Hummer chicks

I'm so sad to have to report that the chicks have disappeared. They were getting fed this morning, then 3 hours later they have gone. I looked all over to see if they have fallen out but no sign of them. I can only guess that a crow got to them. So sad to see the mother keep coming back looking and sitting in the empty nest. I'm quite beyond words right now....

This was the last image I shot of them, they were getting so big, they would have fledged in 10 days

Oh saly, I'm also so very sad. Poor little things, and poor mama looking for them. How tragic for all, including you.

Yes, a sad time when predators come and rob the nest. I've seen it happen a few times this Spring on Robin nests. In one case, I saw the crows taking the chicks out and away. In other cases, just an empty nest before they were mature.

I work in residential neighborhoods every day. The number of bright blue egg shells laying in the yards is significant, seems to be more this season than in past years. I'm not sure who is taking the eggs.

Sometimes, nature is cruel in our eyes.

That is a shame. The world can always use more hummers.

Thanks Jim, Carol, Roger, Steve, Alex, banksy. Really appreciate your kind words. I was really crushed, should have known better than to have my hopes up so high. Those poor little ones and the brave mom. I hope she comes back to try again in the spring with happier ending.

I feel so badly for the little ones, what they must have went thru, and the poor mom, caring for them, & then losing them.

It's a very sad thing to happen. Bless you, for caring for them, & sharing with us.

very sad news indeed. saly (or is it yuki? i'm confused). we have 2 dove babies and i am very terrified that a hawk is going to get them. we've got a huge hawk that's been hanging around the neighborhood. i never can seem to catch him with the camera though.

once again, very sad to hear about the little hummers.
