Default "glass through" mode? :-/

can someone adequately explain what this *does*?
alright, the manual says it's for "taking pics through clear glass" but "the camera may focus on the glass if it is dirty or has dust on it". now, i kinda thought a specific "glass through" mode would be programmed to look through dirt - so basically, what's the benefit of using this as opposed to normal modes, if there's a risk of Glass Through focusingon dirty glass, as a normal mode would?

G'day kw

One answer is the get out there & try it > and then tell us all about it
Another answer is that on some occasions when I'm shooting something from inside the vehicle, I have found my camera 'insists' on focussing on the [dusty] window glass just as often as focussing out onto the actual subject

The other thought I have is that the glass puts a very slight 'mist' across the image that needs to be pp'd via a touch of increased contrast. I wonder if the in-camera pp is to do that??
