Default Would you have photographed this.

I was attracted by the texture and the way the light was falling on the tree trunk, but now I think it looks boring, perhaps an angled shot would have worked better, at least the exposure and focus are OK, your thoughts please.

Yes I would have Grounded, nice texture. Maybe give a try in B&W.

Hmmmm, I didn't know others did the same thing! How many times have I found something to shoot, capture many shots, come home, upload, and ask, "Why did you take pictures of that?"

To be sure, the texture is interesting. I probably would have taken the shot too. Yes, interesting to some, but probably not a hit with the masses. It may have more appeal in a B & W version.

The problem is it lacks a focus point. There is no single point to draw the eye. I suppose I fail to understand that concept, until I see something like this.

It does work well for checking out focusing techniques and quality.

me too, in HDR for all my sins. i love what HDR does to wood textures. then i'd probably try the BandW thing with it too. ive seen JJ do similar shots to great effect. right up his avenue of expertise. nice shot mate!

Is it just me or does this look like a dry piece of roast?

Tree bark would take a bit of chewing, I wouldn't recommend it.

I probably would have. And yes, interesting texture. You could use this as one in fact if you ever layer pictures.
