A 20x optical lens wouldn't necessarily have to be huge. The Sony FD91 had a 14x optical zoom lens, and yes it had a big snout on it, but heck, it was a 14x! Then along comes the mini Panasonic FZ1 with a comparably tiny 12x optical zoom (stabilized). That shows me that for twice the size of the 12x lens on the FZ1, we could have a 24x on the FZ20!

I agree with Chiks -- why can't Panasonic just release all that as a firmware upgrade (only in Japan of course) so it can be downloaded? This is a prime example of how Panasonic refuses to support its existing customers!! (haha!)

Some camcorders also have tiny 20x optical zooms, although I don't know if they could be made fast enough and have enough resolution for a high-end digital camera.
