Default Reactions on CNET review of FZ10?

Hi,

I'm thinking about buying the FZ10 and reading all about it on the internet. Here in Holland it is not out yet, but i'm anxious to get hold of one soon.

I just saw the latest review of the FZ10 on CNet.com: http://reviews.cnet.com/Panasonic_Lu...5.html?tag=dir
They ar not so enthousiastic about the image quality. That does make me think.

Anyone of you experienced FZ10 owners care to react?

Thnx,

Anton

I have the FZ10 and find that review to miss both the strengths and the weaknesses of the FZ10. You might want to look at Steve's review on this site or the new one from megapixel at http://www.megapixel.net/html/issueindex.php?lang=en

Default Don't base your decision on one review..

Look at all reviews and then look at the output of actual users..they can be more telling since they have used the camera long term. Here are a few more reviews:

While I am by no means an experienced FZ10 user (or one of digital photography in general), I think they didn't do enough (if any) outdoor testing. Which, after all, is what the FZ10 is designed for. And I think they over did the indoor as well, I have taken pleanty of good indoor shots in horrible lighting.

I am glad I got my FZ10 before this review, because otherwise I might not have gotten this great digital camera.

So check out some reviews from digital camera sites (like this one and DCresource, and some others mentioned by other people). And also try it out in a store to see if you like it. I tried one at Ritz camera and using it was one of the things that got me wanting it really badly.

It is already out in Holland. Although it is a lot more expensive then in America for now.

It's nothing special, the red line is the minimum price, the grey line is the average price and the blue line is the minimum price when the product was first introduced in the list (in euros).

Low light focus is a problem, which they compounded by not putting a distance readout of the manual focus. Even with my camera that has an EVF that brightens in low light I prefer to estimate the distance. They missed a lot of little things that could have made the camera better.

And the flash is weak even if you get it to focus. I have found it focuses in reasonably low light. You get to a point in very dim light where the camera wonít focus and manual isnít much help. You can usually find something the same distance with better light or contrast to pre focus on Ė the difference in ambient light doesnít make much difference in a flash shot.

But you canít compare an unstabilized camera with the FZ10 for getting indoor shots without a flash or tripod. As long as you shoot while nobody is moving too much it is great for that. And for outdoor nature shots it is hard to beat unless you get a DSLR with a good stabilized tele lens.

I always shoot with minimum contrast and sharpening with all of my cameras for post processing. I have been happy with the way the FZ10 images have come out. Sites which specialize in testing cameras feel the image quality is pretty good from the camera and I agree.

I wish they would have put a SHQ JPG format on the camera but there isnít anything right now I would trade the camera for, so I guess it is a compromise I have to make.

Look at the sample photos from Steve and DCRP with the browser set to not resize the images. Those shots were taken at default settings with no post processing and they look reasonably good to me. I havenít found CNETís reviews very good on specialized equipment.

ITHE FZ10 IS MY FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA. i WAITED FOR IT I TRIED THE FZ1 LAST SUMMER BUT NEEDED MORE, WHICH I BELIEVE THE FZ10 HAS.

IN THE REVIEW THEY GO ON TO SAY HOW THE ODDS ARE VERY MUCH IN YOUR FAVOR OF GETTING A HGH QUALITY PHOTO,(E.G. LEICA LENSE, IMAGE STABILIZATION,2 .8 THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE ZOOM

Unfortunately, the FZ10's image quality is disappointing. It's generally acceptable but not great. Indoor exposures are OK, but clipping in highlights is really pronounced

NOT TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EVIDENCE I DON'T KNOW WHAT CLIPPING IS.

HE DOESN'T PROVIDE HARDLY ANY "BECAUSES"
