Default What does the FZ10's Conversion setting actually do

Does setting the FZ10's Conversion setting to Tele or Wide do anything other than limit the zoom range? I haven't bought a tele-converter yet. Would I need to use this setting if I use a non-Panasonic converter?

As far as I can tell, it just limits the zoom range to fit whatever lens you using. 6x-12x for the tele and 1x-2x for the WA. This prevents you from zooming out of the range of the lens.

Plus saves wear and tear on the lense from zooming in and out so much. Also if your using it for zoom it doesn't take as long to zoom all the way out when you turn it on.....
