damn! that's a cracking shot, how close were you? i found a cute tiny jumping spider in my house, put the Raynox on etc and as soon as the focus locked he was off and wandering - i'm sure they can tell when electronic equipment focuses on them :-D

Thanks for looking. That ant was probably less than two inches away. Not sure about insects, but for birds, as you say, they do hear the sound of the zoom lens moving and fly away. I am yet to get a decent shot of the tailor bird that frequents my backyard.

Here's another one, trying to get a little more closer, but at this distance I find it very difficult to hold the camera steady to catch a good shot.
