Default About the FZ3!!

This was posted over at DPReview today:

"Went to a trade exhibition today and the product manager for Panasonic in our region assured me that an upgraded 3 mega pixel FZ3 is on its way later this year with same form factor as current FZ2. Interesting news for those who want more pixels but not the increased size of the FZ10. Hope he was being on the ball. Cheers"

Any comments, speculation, wishes, anyone, Panasonic(Bob)??

The post that you quoted has been removed from dpreview (and the poster apparently banned).

Edit: turned out to be a voluntary removal.

Banned?
Post removed? That seems a bit harsh?
As I've explained in the past, I'm not permitted to comment on any product that's not officially announced. In this case I can tell you this.

At this time I haven't seen a sample nor have I seen mention of it. The comment that a Panasonic rep told this person about it is highly unlikely as it's the company policy, especially at trade shows, that such speculative info is not discussed.

Logically, the model number is possible. As soon I I receive any info that I can share I'll be sure to share it with all of you.

All ai an offer is an honest response.
Thanks

Since I posted that info, I feel the need to clarify.
According to the info that I have, the poster asked Phil to remove the information from dpreview. What looked like a ban turned out to be something else.

As Phil once mentioned, a removal of a post automatically bans the poster (I believe that's how that forum software operates) so technically there was a ban...

Anyway, we can still speculate.

According to this document, Panasonic develops a 3+MP sensor (MN39400) that has the same factor (1/3.2", but specified as 6.6mm). sounds like a good fit for the FZ3.

Sounds like a recipe for a massive increase in noise over the already noisy FZ2 if the sensor is the same size yet packs 3MP.

I've got an FZ2 and it's got far more noise than my 4MP Canon IXY400. Especially in low light, but even in broad daylight my FZ2 usually picks up a bit of noise. It's because of the small sensor size they use - unfortunately it's just something you have to live with as they can't increase the sensor size without increasing the size of the camera. This is why i'm worried about a 3MP version of the FZ2 that is physically the same size. I consider the FZ range to be far better suited to daylight conditions - in low light they really are pretty useless. Focusing becomes increasingly difficult, and noise is amped up. For night shots i prefer to use my Canon as it has a nice big sensor (big even for a 4MP sensor) which can turn out a noiseless image in pitch blackness with perfect focus due to the low light assist beam - something else the FZ range lacks for low light shooting. Still, i love the FZ range for what it's designed for!! The best ultra zooms currently available IMO.
