I've bought Panasonic LC20 yesterday. It's also my first digital camera. I also had to decide between Canon A40 and Panasonic. There are only a few diferences.

A40: more manual settings, cheaper compact flash memory card, heavy (4 AA batteries), AiAF (three-spot auto focus)
LC20: fast shot (5 pics/sec), smaller (only 2 AA batteries), Leica optics, charger included, better design

They are very similar cameras. LC20 is smaller and has very nice design. I would recommend you LC20 if you don't want to use other manual settings than only compensation of exposition or setting white balance.

Hope this advice is a bit helpful... Good luck.

Default Sony DSC P9

Dear mdorani,

Sony DSC-P9 is 4Mpixel camera. Panasonic LC20 and Canon Powershot A40 are only 2Mpixel cameras. So it would be a real surprise if DSC-P9 wouldn't be better...

This is what happens in countries where they secretly have been adding desalinated water into the drinking supply for years
