obviously i can't see it rattle, i can just hear it.. it happens from about the 9x range to 12x. It used to make this sound, only fainter, when only zooming all the way from 1x to 12x, but now its every time the lens reaches 12x, even if its zooming a tiny bit from 11x to 12x. It also seems to be getting louder as time goes by.
I hope I don't have to part from my FZ10 for any length of time, I love this camera.

Please let me know if mine is the only camera that makes the "rattling" type noise when zooming in to 12x.

Please help!

I take it this is *not* from shaking the camera? My lens makes a little noise if I shake the camera, but none while zooming.

no, not from shaking.. even on a tripod it makes the noise when zooming.

I know the noise when the camera shakes, the IS noise, it even sounds normal.

The noise I'm getting when zooming even sounds like it shouldn't be happening.

That doesn't sound normal. Mine is very quiet when I zoom.

PP, you may have gotten some dust or fine grains into the lens crack. I had a radical noise as well after going through a dusty shoot. take something fine and shove it between the lens and lens barrel, that fine crack, and blow it out a bit as well with one of those blower lens cleaners. It seemed to help with me. It didn't hurt the operation of the cam but it did sound a bit "chunky" when zooming, moreso than normal.

Actually, I took a thin piece of cardboard and shoved it in the crack and rotated it around the lens too, and that seemed to help.
