Hey all... I am a newbie here... but wanted to first thank everyone as I have been lurking here and very much helped me decide to get the FZ1 at under 250 seemed like a bargain. I decided to give it a shot with a Raynox DCR-250 Macro Lens on my watch. Hope you like... this is my first foray into digial photography.

I had to shrink it a little to be able to upload it. It is a bit blurry on the bottom right due to watch angle I believe. And the lighting may not be right but I just had it under a halogen on my desk.

And you're onyour way to the big world of smallness. With such a shallow depth of field anything just the slightest distance (+or_) from the focal point will be soft. You can increase the dof somewhat by reducing the aperature to f/8. The virgin fz1 cant do this. The ver 2.0 firmware upgradewill give you that capabilty along with other benefits.

Thanks for the tip! I will give it a go tommorow. Do you have any recommended reading for a newbie like myself? I guess something to understand the basics of DOF... and especially after upgrading the firmware to use P/A/S... I would like to better understand what each mode means and in a way see examples. If you know of anything off the top of your head that would be great. Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Any photography book should be able to give you basics on DOF. You should also see discussion on focal plane.
