The answer is years away but...

Have all digcams come with:

1. Standard battery compartment. (Ala the battery compartment for Olympus E10/20).

2. Vendors then design their batteries to fit the compartment.

3. Batteries then are transferable (for the most part).

4. Lithium AA batteries!!! (If we can bring Lovell, Schweigert and Hais ofApollo 13back to earth, certainly a Lithium based AA battery could be made.

Lithium batteries need more than the 2 contacts on a AA cell, they have (and need)built in electronics for charge control. Take a close look to the FZ10's battery and you will see what I mean.

I thought Energizer made Lithium AA's.....they came in my Apple Bluetooth mouse...

samsung V series P&S cameras can use AA, CRV-3 (rechargeable lithiumand non-rechargeable), their propreitary lithium battery pack and many more with the total of 9 types in just one compartment.

yes, they do. they even have a titanium non-rechargeable AA battery.
